Ultrasound
Veterinary medical ultrasonography uses ultrasound (high-frequency sound waves) to visualize soft tissue structures in the body in real time. Because ultrasound does not utilize ionizing radiation, unlike radiography, CT scans, and nuclear medicine imaging techniques, and does not normally require sedation of the animal, it is generally considered safer. For this reason, it plays a vital role at RRAH and provides Dr. Travis a real-time image of internal organs with little risk or discomfort to the pet. Ultrasound is extremely useful for image-guided interventions like biopsies and drainages such as urinary tract infections. RRAH is proud to offer the only in-house ultrasound services in the area.
We also work closely with two referral services to provide more advanced procedures including Color-Flow Doppler Ultrasound which measures the vascular flow and is used for dynamic evaluation of the heart, heart valves and major vessels. Sloan H. Dupree, DVM of Carolina Veterinary Mobile Radiology is a Diplomat ACVR of Carolina Veterinary Mobile Radiology and a board certified Veterinary Medical Radiologist. She works with us to provide state-of-the-art ultrasonography including echocardiograms and advanced internal diagnostics. Dr. Dupree also provides review and consultation services for our radiographs (x-rays) which she receives in near real-time through our digital imaging device via the internet.
Ray Lazenby DVM, MS of Eagle Mobile Veterinary Services offers advanced ultrasonography for procedures such as echocardiograms and biopsies. He also gives us the capability to provide advanced flexible endoscopy, rhinoscope and otoscope services as well consultation with his 30+ years of experience in Veterinary Medicine general practice.
